This was one of my favorite spreads I did in one of my sketchbooks. The assignment was to make a stencil from an image we used from a previous sketchbook assignment. I used ink to fill it in. The image is from a pop art self portrait I found using google, it's a close up of the girl's hair done four times.
First Major Assignment from Drawing
This was my First big drawing assignment for this semester. We were to go to the Wagner Institute and make a series of 12 drawings, and we had to make it relate to each other. Mine was a picture of a cabinet that zoomed into the image of a birds nest and soon into the hole of one of the eggs. It was interesting to hear the critiques. What i just saw as some drawings of eggs and nests, other people took it as a piece about life and death. came right out of left field to me, but I took it as a very big compliment that someone would get that from my drawing. Ever since it's been one of my favorite pieces I've done.
2D Project 1
For our first big project in 2D, we were to make poster sized compositions using the color theory we'd been taught all semester long. For my assignment I used the triad of orange green and purple. I put in some patterns and decorative paper, and Audrey Hepburn's portrait.
Again it's laying on the wrong side.

Computers silkscreen
OUr previous assignment in foundation computers was to make a design to be silkscreened. I used a spread from one o my sketchbooks, and I used the colors orange and blue-green.
My last drawing assignment
this is my last drawing assignment I've done this semester before my final. The concept was we were give a small object and we were to draw it as a large space you could walk into. My piece was a pair of teeth.
sadly it is also on it's side. I'm not really sure how to flip it right now.

landscape, another drawing discussion
It's time for finals at Tyler, and currently in my drawing class we are beginning our final drawings. we are drawing landscapes. At first I hated the idea because tI personally think landscape drawings and paintings are boring, they just remind me of art people hang up in their beach house. plus I feel like there isn't much of an interesting focal point. But after asking a few questions to my drawing teacher she realized I didn't exactly understand the concept. That's when she told us she purposefully made the assignment vague, she wanted us to be creative. She basically explained anything can be considered a landscape. So now, I'm at a loss of what I'm going to do for an assignment.

Monday's Drawing Critiques
Yesterday was our first day back in class from spring break, and it was also critique day in my drawing class. We had had four weeks to create a four foot by three foot self portrait in any color scheme that wasn't black and white. And during the critique some interesting questions were posed, what necessarily makes something a self-portrait? Does it have to be just a drawing of your face? does it need to include your entire face? Should it depict your personality, or what you want to aspire to be? Although all the portraits were of our faces, they were quite different. One girls depicted her emotions and feelings of when she'd be overwhelmed by her work, and another person just had them self as a floating head over the grand canyon. The most interesting to me was a portrait where the face looked almost airbrushed because her features were so smooth and her make up and hair was perfect. It also slimmed her down a bit too. It was discovered during the critique that this was the ideal version of herself. After the critique it made me wonder what exactly a self portrait was and what it really depicts.

Text Drawings
Two weeks ago our class was taught how to make text drawings, they can finally be put up and these were the ones I ended up making.
I made this pattern from the phrase and font I made. For whatever reason my first image, the phrase, won't load, so I'll try that again later. It's made from all h's.
This next image I made out of i's, it's a flower.
My next image I had A LOT of help on, my friend didn't like my original text drawing so they did some major editing. (Although I still think my original image wasn't as bad as he says.) In case you couldn't tell, it's a buggy.
My next image which was totally all mine is of an Indian Man. I really wanted to make something more complex and cool like my friend had done, only instead I made this.
It's a tad more goofy.

Tuesday Lecture
Today's lecture was continuing the discussion about possible majors for next year. Graphic Design was discussed, and it included specifically GAID and Printmaking. Both were very interesting, the GAID portion showed us some projects they usually do including packaging designs and labels, and some interactive design videos. The printmaking portion also discussed design, and specifically the types of prints. We were showed woodblock prints and etchings, very interesting and well done.

Drawing Critiques
Yesterday my drawing class had its first critique for the spring semester. It was actually pretty interesting, I always like seeing the drawing styles of the kids in my classes. It's cool to see how different everyone is. There was also a required reading for this project, an excerpt from Mr. Wilson's Cabinet of Wonder. For most of the people in class who did read the passage it was pretty confusing. It was supposedly about a museum of different odd things, some were real and some were fake. But Mr. Wilson, no matter what, would act like everything in his museum was legitimate. It was supposed to be a comparison to when our class visited the Wagner Institute of Science. It's an out of date museum filled with taxidermy animals and shells and rocks and fossils. It was an interesting trip, as well as an interesting assignment.

3D Assignment
For the very first project this semester in 3D Foundations we're basing our projects off of the Jeff Koons debacle http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/20/arts/design/20suit.html?_r=1&ref=todayspaper. We are to pick an object from pop culture, make a mold of it, then make a lot of copies and sell them in the tyler building. The thing is we have to base it off of what is going on with the Jeff Koons lawsuit that is going on right now. Right now we have brought in a few objects to makes molds from, I don't really like my object right now (elmers glue bottle) so I'm probably going to change it before my next class this wednesday.

Double photos, first time using photo shop
First image I've ever made on photo shop, its a combined picture of a lady bug I doodled (it's supposed to say three left feet underneath, but I guess I cropped it out..whoops) and a really blurry close up of my beetle ring. That's how they relate; they're bugs, two bugs together.
This is another image I made, but instead these are two pictures I took. One of colored paint swatches I had to make for my 2D class, and the other is a picture of a chair inside Tyler. The reason I put these two together was because they seemed kind of simple and the orange color in both pictures were really close in value, and I liked how they looked together.
These two pictures are a picture of the inside of my closet (left), and a picture of my jacket with little things you'll normally find in the pockets of my clothes. If it wasn't clear before, that's how the two images are related. Plus I thought the colors worked together nicely.
